Zara Maria Larsson is world renowned especially for her successful singles Lush Life, Uncover and Never Forget You, and for collaborating with David Guetta for the creation of This One’s for You, the hymn of the 2016 European Championship and Tinie Tempah in Girls Like.
Zara was born on 16 December 1997 at Karolinska University Hospital of Solna, Stockholm’s urban area, from Agnetha and Anders Larsson. In an interview with the daily newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, she stated that she was born “dead” because of a lack of oxygen from the nerve cord. She has a smaller sister, Hanna, also a singer and member of the band Hanna & Andrea.
She studied dance for several years at the Royal Swedish Ballet School.
In an interview in 2015, Larsson said she had been admitted to the prestigious Adolf Fredrik’s Music School in the past, but refused because she did not intend to sing in a choir.
In 2008, at the age of 10, she won the second season of the Talang Sverige swedish talent TV show, based on the Got Talent format, winning 500,000 crowns. Always in 2008 released a cover of My Heart Will Go On as the single debut.
Zara signed up with TEN Music Group in 2012 to record her debut EP, Introducing, anticipated on December 9, 2012 from the release of an Uncover preview on Youtube. The album, made up of five tracks, was released on January 21, 2013. The single Uncover reached the top of the Swedish charts, in addition to the Norwegian rankings and the 3rd position in Denmark; also on 25 February 2013 the song was certified platinum disc by Universal Music Sweden. In June 2016, the song’s music video records over 115 million views on Youtube. In July 2013, the singer received the platinum triple platinum for Introducing at the Sommarkrysset of Gröna Lund.
On March 27, 2013, Larsson’s next EP was revealed through an She’s Not Me preview (Pt. 1). “ The five-track EP, Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself, was released on July 5, 2013. She’s Not Me (composed by She’s Not Me (Pt. 1) and She’s Not Me (Pt. 2)) was released on June 5, 2013.
On April 3, 2013, she revealed on her own blog that she had signed a three-year contract with the US label Epic Records.
On October 1, 2014, Larsson released her debut studio album 1, which includes Uncover, Bad Boys and She’s Not Me (Pt. 1 & 2) tracks. The album received the platinum disc in Sweden.
On June 5, 2015, she released the single Lush Life. The song became her second top single and was certified four times platinum in Sweden. The single has also reached the top 5 in Australia, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Austria and the UK. The video clip reaches over 500 million views over a year. On Spotify is the second most replicated song by a single female singer after Adele’s Hello.
On July 22, 2015, Zara released a new single, Never Forget You, collaborating with MNEK, a British artist nominated at Grammy. The song reached No. 1 in Sweden, No. 5 in the UK, No. 3 in Australia, reaching even the Top 20 in the United States and also reached the top of the Swedish spotify charts. The single became platinum in Sweden after only two weeks. Like Lush Life, the song’s music video on YouTube has easily collected more than 300 million views from users on the platform.
In February 2016, Tinie Tempah released her new single Girls Like in collaboration with Larsson, who reaches Top 5 in the UK and the official YouTube video over 100 million views.
On May 13, 2016, David Guetta‘s single came out in collaboration with the singer, This One’s for You, dedicated to European Championship in 2016. On the occasion of the competition, she attended the French disc jockey both at the opening ceremony and at the closing ceremony, both on stage at the Stade de France.
On September 2, 2016 releases the first single from her international debut album, Ain’t My Fault, written by Larsson together with MNEK and Markus Sepehrmanesh. It debuts directly at the top of the Swedish rankings and earns good market success even in the rest of Europe. On November 6, she is performing at the MTV Europe Music Awards with Lush Life and Ain’t My Fault, and during the event she also won the Best New Artist Award.
The next November 11 is released as a single promotional I Would Like.
On January 27, 2017 Zara publishes the studio version of the fifth single official and title-track So Good, in collaboration with US rapper Ty Dolla Sign.
On March 17, 2017 she collaborated with the British trio Clean Bandit with the single Symphony, performing for the first time on March 18 during a show of the British show The Voice UK.
