Salma Hayek, of Lebanese origin, is the muse of directors Robert Rodriguez (with whom she worked in Desperado, Four Rooms, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Faculty, Mission 3D – Game Over and Once Upon a Time in Mexico) and Julie Taymor, who directed her in Frida, in which Salma Hayek plays the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and Across the Universe. She also starred in the role of the Mexican waitress Camilla Lopez, muse and lover of the writer Arturo Bandini (played by Colin Farrell) in Ask the Dust, based on the famous novel by John Fante and in the role of Martha Beck in Lonely Hearts.
Born in Coatzacoalcos 2 September 1966, Salma is the daughter of Sami Hayek Dominguez, a Mexican businessman, and Diana Jiménez Medina, a Mexican opera singer, and she has a brother named Sami, who works in the world of design. Student of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was expelled at 12 years for her excessive exuberance; during the same period is diagnosed with a form of dyslexia, which the actress will correct over time. As punishment, her parents send her to Mexico City with the intention to enroll at the university, where she studied international relations, but Salma soon abandoned her studies to pursue her vocation as an actress.

But the highlight of her career just comes with Frida, a film for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.
