Petra Nemcova is a Czech beautiful model, TV presenter and writer.
Born in Communist Czechoslovakia, Petra grew up with her sister Olga in the city of Karviná. She was mocked at school because she had the same surname as the writer Božena Němcová. She is discovered on the streets of Prague by Next Model Management, with which she signs a contract and moves to Milan.
In 1996 she took part in the Elite Model Look beauty contest. After being discovered by Next Model Management, she will be the protagonist of advertising campaigns for Bulgari, Dirk Bikkembergs, Intimissimi, Max Factor, Victoria’s Secret and others. She also appeared on the covers of Madame Figaro, Elle, Shape, Cosmopolitan, Sports Illustrated and FHM. between 2000 and 2004 she showed for Lolita Lempicka, Gai Mattiolo, Matthew Williamson, Custo Barcelona, Luciano Soprani. She is currently contracted with Mikas in Stockholm, View Management in Barcelona, Unique One in Prague and Next Model Management in London, Paris, Milan, New York, Miami and Los Angeles.
In 2001 she appeared in the British program Absolutely Fabulous; in 2004 she was part of the jury of the Miss Universe competition won by Jennifer Hawkins and held in Quito. Presents in 2007 for The Learning Channel (TLC) A Model Life and appears in the video of the song “Misfit” by the indie band Elefant. In 2011 she was one of the Dancing with the Stars contestants flanked by dancer Dmitry Chaplin.
In 2005 she published her autobiography, Love Always, Petra, where she talks about childhood lived under communism, the first steps in the fashion world and the breakthrough with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, a launching pad in the world of top models. She also talks about future projects with Simon Atlee.
In 2004, Petra Nemcova was in Thailand on vacation during the tsunami with her boyfriend and photographer Simon Atlee. Their bungalow was overwhelmed by the sea, Atlee drowned, was found and identified only in March, on the coasts of Sumatra; Nemcova with the fractured pelvis and internal injuries found salvation on a palm where for eight hours she waited for civilians to rescue her. She was admitted to Thailand for 3 weeks before continuing her convalescence in the Czech Republic.
Later she will have a relationship with the English singer-songwriter James Blunt.
In 2007 she became a vegan, eliminating meat and animal products from her diet in order to “save the life of the oceans”.
From 2010 to 2012 is romantically linked to the British actor Jamie Belman.
In 2005, after surviving the tsunami, she founded the charity Happy Hearts Fund (HHF). Returning to Thailand a few months after the catastrophe, she witnessed entire communities wiped out, homeless families and children without parents. Just the children pushed her into this initiative but because she did not receive clear information from other organizations she decided to found HHF, eliminating all the administrative costs in order to send 100% of the donations to the needy. She also contributed to the recovery initiatives after Hurricane Katrina.
Alongside Wycleaf Jean and his association, she financed the construction of a laboratory and a canteen in the shantytown of Port-au-Prince, in 2007, the same year he flew to Peru to help the children hit by an earthquake. In 2011 she was appointed Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Haiti by the local government for her commitment after the 2010 earthquake.
