In her track record, Melissa Jeanette Franklin, better known as Missy Franklin, boasts fourteen medals (ten golds, one silver, three bronze) at the World Aquatics Championships and five medals (four golds, one bronze) at the Olympic Games.
She holds the world record and Olympic record in the 200 m backstroke, discipline in which specializes in addition to the national 100m record. She was part of the teams that have set the current world record of the 4×100-meter medley relay both long course that short course.
At the 2012 London Olympics she won five medals won, and she was the most medaled woman of the games.
On August 4, 2013, winning the final of the mixed 4×100, became the first woman to win as many as 6 medals in a single edition of the World Swimming, as well as swimmer with the largest number of gold medals won in the history of the championships.
Missy Franklin is the daughter of Richard and D.A. Franklin, both of Canadian origin. Attends Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado. The father works for the Rocky Mountain Cleantech Open, which supports entrepreneurs interested in sustainable energy; the mother is a family doctor. D.A. advised her daughter to represent Canada in the competitions to have less pressure behind, but, for patriotic reasons toward the United States, Missy refused.
Trained by Todd Schmitz from the age of seven years, among the swimmers, Missy Franklin is inspired by compatriot Natalie Coughlin. In March 2013 she appeared in an episode of Pretty Little Liars, playing herself.
