Kate Winslet won an Academy Award for The Reader, compared with seven nominations, four Golden Globes, two BAFTA Awards, three Screen Actors Guild, an Emmy, a Grammy Award and an Honorary César. In the days of release of the film, British actor Stephen Tredre, her former partner, dies of cancer. Following the resounding success that invests Titanic, she decides to refuse roles in big-budget films and large-scale productions such as Anna and the King and Shakespeare in Love, and instead accept a role in an independent film, Hideous Kinky, based on the semi-autobiographical story of Esther Freud and directed by Gillies MacKinnon.
In 1999 she starred in Holy Smoke directed by Jane Campion, alongside Harvey Keitel and Pam Grier and Quills, directed by Philip Kaufman, alongside Geoffrey Rush, Joaquin Phoenix and Michael Caine. Other interpretations are to emphasize are those in Iris by Richard Eyre and in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by Michael Gondry, next to Jim Carrey.
In the summer of 2007, after a year off, back on the set, another time with Leonardo DiCaprio, in the movie Revolutionary Road, for which she won the Golden Globe and was nominated for BAFTA Awards and the SAG Awards. In 2008 she starred in Stephen Daldry’s The Reader with Ralph Fiennes, replacing the actress Nicole Kidman, who gives up the film because of pregnancy. Thanks to this role, and one of the best performances in film history, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, the BAFTA, the Screen Actors Guild Award, the European Film Award and the Critics’ Choice Movie Award.
In 2011 she is in the cast, along with Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly and Christoph Waltz, of Carnage by Roman Polanski, the film that fruits a Golden Globe nomination. In the same year she received the Cesar for her career. OnMarch 17 2014 Kate Winslet receives the star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood. In 2015, Kate Winslet is in the cast of the film Steve Jobs, directed by Danny Boyle, opposite Michael Fassbender, Seth Rogen and Jeff Daniels. The shooting of the film took place in San Francisco in January of that year. Thanks to this interpretation she won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and is nominated for another Academy Award.
On November 22, 1998 Kate Winslet married Jim Threapleton, met on the set of Hideous Kinky, where he worked as an assistant director. They had a daughter, Mia Honey, who was born on 12 October 2000. In December 2001 she officially divorces. On May 24, 2003 she marries director Sam Mendes, from who has its second son, Joe Alfie, who was born on 22 December 2003. The couple announced the divorce by mutual consent in March 2010. On December 2012 she married for the third time in New York with Ned Rocknroll, the nephew of the owner of Virgin Records Richard Branson, in a private ceremony that was attended by her two sons and a few close friends. To accompany her to the altar was a longtime friend, Leonardo DiCaprio. The third Kate Winslet’s son is Bear and is father is Ned Rocknroll. On August 2011 the actress has rescued the 90 year-old mother of entrepreneur Richard Branson unleashed by the fire in the house where she was guests with her family.
