Miss Universe 2017 is Iris Mittenaere, a French student of 23 years. And she has awarded the title of Miss Universe in the final night of the annual context held in Manila, in the Philippines. Mittenaere, Lille, wore the crown after beating the other two finalists: Miss Haiti, which is the 25 years old Raquel Pelissier, and 23 years old Miss Colombia, Andrea Tovar.
Mittenaere, who is studying dentistry, said during a news conference in Manila that “France and Europe are really need of a Miss Universe”. And this is the second time that France has won this title in over 60 years. The first French Miss Universe was Christiane Martel, who was elected Miss Universe in 1953. The last European titleholder awarded as Miss Universe was Mona Grudt of Norway in 1990.
Iris Mittenaere previously won Miss France 2016. She attended school in Steenvoorde, where she lived with her mother, and has a brother, sister, and half-sister. Her parents separated when she was three years old. Mittenaere was born on 25 January 1993 in Lille, to Yves Mittenaere, a professor of history and geography, and Laurence Druart, a schoolteacher and lecturer.
