Emily Browning was born in Melbourne, and is the daughter of Andrew and Shelley Browning. She has two younger brothers, Nicholas and Matthew, and in November 2006 she graduated at the Eltham High School.
Her passion for acting was born in eight years, when a former classmate of her father noted her in a school play and strongly advised to begin a career as an actress. Emily debuted in 1998 with a small role in The Echo of Thunder. Later she get parts in The Man Who Sued God, starring Billy Connolly and Ned Kelly with Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom. The breakthrough came in 2002 with Ghost Ship, which was filmed in Australia, but realized in the United States. In the same year she won the award for Best Actress at the Australian Film Institute Award, and was nominated for the same award the following year.
Following the success Emily receives numerous proposals as in 2004 the part of Violet Baudelaire in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring alongside well-known actors like Meryl Streep and Jim Carrey.
After several years dedicated to the conclusion of their studies, she was chosen in 2010 to play the role of Lucy, the protagonist, in Sleeping Beauty. In the same year in Australia filmed Sucker Punch, where she plays the role of the protagonist.
