Camila Cabello is a former member of the Fifth Harmony band, she achieved notoriety in 2012 following her participation in the second season of the well-known talent show The X Factor USA, in which, together with her companions, she was ranked third.
Camila Cabello was born in Cojimar, Cuba, on 3 March 1997. For most of her childhood she lived with her Cuban mother Sinuhe and her Mexican father Alejandro, between Havana and Mexico City, before moving to Miami, United States, at the age of 5 years. She attended Miami Palmetto High School, a school she had to abandon in 2012 to pursue her artistic career.
In 2012, Camila Cabello attended the auditions as a soloist for the second season of The X Factor USA show in Greensboro, North Carolina. After being eliminated as a soloist, she returned to participate in the competition with Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Normani Kordei, to form the band Fifth Harmony. In January 2013, the band signed a contract with Syco Music, owned by Simon Cowell, and with Epic Records, the label of L.A. Reid.
On December 18, 2016, Fifth Harmony announced through their social media accounts that Camila decided to leave the group to pursue a solo career.
In November 2015 Camila recorded a song in collaboration with the Canadian singer Shawn Mendes, entitled I Know What You Did Last Summer, contained in the remake of the album by the latter Handwritten. The song has reached the twenty-first position of the US ranking, the eighteenth of the Canadian and has been awarded with the certification of platinum record by the Recording Industry Association of America.
In October 2016, the American rapper Machine Gun Kelly has placed on the market a single run in collaboration with Camila, Bad Things, which ranked at the tenth position of the Billboard Hot 100, becoming in a short time viral on the platform musical.ly. On December 1, the accompanying music video clip, directed by Hannah Lux Davis, is also published.
On January 25, 2017, Love Incredible is released online, a song produced in collaboration with Norwegian disc jockey Cashmere Cat and producer Sophie. This is then officially published on February 16, 2017 as the third single from the album 9. Shortly thereafter, she collaborated with rappers Pitbull and J Balvin on the track Hey Ma, recorded for the soundtrack of the film Fast & Furious 8. In addition to the original version, the song was recorded and published in Spanish. On March 10, 2017 the videoclip of the Spanish version of the song, shot in Miami and containing some scenes taken from the film, is published, the English version and the related music video were instead published on April 7, 2017, in correspondence with the distribution of Fast & Furious 8 in theaters.
On May 15, 2017, the artist announced plans to release the debut studio album by the autumn of the same year. The first single thought was Crying in the Club, published in the form of digital download from May 19 and composed by the same Cabello, in collaboration with Sia and Benny Blanco and Marco Florian and subsequently discarded from the official track list of the album. Concurrent with its release, the respective music video is published, directed by Emil Nava.
At the beginning of it, the artist has interpreted for the first time ever the song I Have Questions, present in the debut album. The full version of this has been made available since May 21st. On the same day, she performed both songs for the first time at the annual Billboard Music Awards.
On 3 August 2017 the singer released two more songs, Havana, in collaboration with Young Thug, and OMG, in collaboration with Quavo. Havana was subsequently released as a single in consideration of the great popularity on the Spotify platform, reaching the top of the charts in Australia, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. On 5 December of the same year the singer, through their social profiles, announced that the debut studio album Camila would be published on 12 January 2018 and subsequently publish two unpublished works: Never Be the Same and Real Friends.
