Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was born in the Bronx 29 years ago, she is the youngest woman elected to Congress.

She is younger than the current youngest U.S. Representative, Elise Stefanik, who is 33-years-old.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez beat the Republican opponent, the seventy-two year old professor Anthony Pappas.

Ocasio-Cortez is still paying her loan for the University and until recently she did not even have health insurance.

She has become the national face of disgruntled young democrats, often women and minorities, trying to push the party to the left.

In the 2016 presidential election, Ocasio-Cortez was the organizer in the campaign of Bernie Sanders who had challenged Hillary Clinton for the nomination of the Democratic Party. In 2018, encouraged by the Sanders group, Ocasio-Cortez decided to challenge Joseph Crowley, a parliamentarian of the Fourteenth District.

Crowley, like Hillary Clinton, was in the center of the Democratic Party while Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez placed themselves at the left wing of the party and declared themselves Socialist Democrats.

As Sanders had done in his presidential race, Ocasio-Cortez decided to refuse contributions from large companies by receiving the vast majority of her funds from small contributions in small amounts.

In total, she spent 194,000 dollars on her campaign while his opponent Crowley spent 3.4 million
