Aishwarya Rai, married Bachchan, is an Indian actress, model, and film producer.
A native of the state of Karnataka, she was noted from her youth for her beauty by becoming the face of the Pepsi drink. Initially Aishwarya had plans to become an architect, and actually began to study architecture, but later abandoned her studies to pursue her modeling career.
After winning the 1994 Miss World competition, she embarked on a film career. Her debut came with the Tamil language film Iruvar in 1997. The following year she achieved her first commercial success with Jeans, which she pointed out to the Bollywood film industry.
In 1999 she starred in the musical Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Subsequently, she interpreted several films obtaining more and more positive criticisms and cinematographic prizes, up to becoming an international star.
Rai was a member of the jury at the 56th Cannes Film Festival. In 2008 she moved into production with the Bhopal Movie film, which also saw her as an interpreter
