Sibel Kekilli was born in Baden-Wurttemberg from a Muslim family of Turkish immigrants, arrived in the then West Germany in 1977.
She abandoned her studies at the age of sixteen, when they come of age she moved to the city of Essen, where after having played sporadically different jobs, in the early 2000s appear in several porn films under the pseudonym “Dilara“. In 2003 Kekilli begins to fight publicly against the invasiveness of the mass media in people’s lives, after the German newspaper Bild had announced her brief past of hardcore actress.
Passed definitively mainstream roles, Kekilli became famous in 2004 for her portrayal of Sibel Güner in the film Gegen die Wand (Head-On) by Fatih Akın. Later, in the year 2010 she held the position of concubine Shae in US TV series Game of Thrones, and the part of Sarah Brandt in the German series Tatort.
Head-On is a 2004 German-Turkish drama film written and directed by Fatih Akın set in Hamburg. A forty man, Cahit Tomruk, is a first generation turkish immigrant, and unkempt alcoholic, so reduced by grief at the loss of his young wife. One evening, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, trying to take his life directing his car at full speed against a concrete wall. Inexplicably he gets out alive from the impact, albeit limping and with a flick, but nothing broken. In the psychiatric hospital where he is temporarily hospitalized, he meets Sibel Güner, a twenty year old German, daughter of Turkish immigrants, also a recovering from a suicide attempt.
