Rhona Mitra was born in Paddington, a district of Westminster (London), on August 9, 1976 by Anthony Mitra, a British cosmetic surgeon, the son of an Indian immigrant native of West Bengal, and an English woman, and Nora Downey, an Irish housewife. She has an older brother, Jason, and one minor, Guyan. After the divorce of her parents (in 1984) Rhona goes to boarding school where she began to approach the world of the show interpreting various theater roles.
In 1997 she was chosen as a model of Lara Croft thus becoming the second, after Nathalie Cook, to interpret the famous character of the video game series Tomb Raider. Following it will be many more.
Among her successes also two albums, Come Alive (1998) and Female Icon (1999), both produced by Dave Stewart, and a cover of Playboy. She appeared in the third series of the series Nip / Tuck in the role of police inspector Kit McGraw.
In 2006 she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Awards 2006 for participation in the series Boston Legal. Since 2012 she has participated in two seasons of the TV series Strike Back. In 2014 she plays Dr. Rachel Scott in the post-apocalyptic series The Last Ship produced by Michael Bay.
She plays also in the lead role of the science fiction/action film Doomsday as Major Eden Sinclair (2008); and as Sonja in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009).
