Michelle Williams: Dawson’s Creek and Brokeback Mountain

Michelle Williams earned international fame for her role as Jen Lindley in the TV series Dawson’s Creek (1998-2003), and Alma Del Mar in Brokeback Mountain (2005), for which she received her first Oscar nomination.

In 2010 she was directed by Martin Scorsese in Shutter Island and Derek Cianfrance in Blue Valentine, for which she received her second Academy Award nomination, Golden Globe and SAG Award as best actress. She later won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy and received her third Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her performance in the biopic of Marilyn Monroe entitled just Marilyn (2011). Her subsequent films include The Great and Powerful Oz (2013), French Suite (2014), and Manchester by the Sea (2016).

On Broadway, she starred in the Broadway revival of Cabaret in 2014 and Blackbird in 2016, for which she received a Tony Award nomination.

From July 2004 to September 2007 Michelle Williams was the companion of the Australian actor Heath Ledger, met on the set of Brokeback Mountain. The two had a daughter, born in 2005, Matilda Rose Ledger, whose godfather is Jake Gyllenhaal, friend of the couple and their colleague in Brokeback Mountain, and the godmother Busy Philipps, longtime friend of Williams and her colleague in Dawson’s Creek. In May 2015 the actress has embarked on an affair with the writer Jonathan Safran Foer.
