Luna Maya, a winning actress from Indonesia

Luna Maya, who her real name is Luna Maya Sugeng, was born on August 26, 1983, and she is an Indonesian soap opera actress, singer and movie star of Indonesian and Austrian descent. She is one of the most appreciated actress in Indonesia having won several prizes as EO Avante & E-Motion Entertainment Inspiring Women Awards as Best Face in 2005 and Gadis Awards as Most Favorite Artist in 2009. At the Grazia Glitz & Glam Awards in 2012 she won the awards as The Best Comeback and Most Favorite Cover. A the Jawa Pos Awards, instead, she won as Favorite Female Star Advertisement, Favorite Film Actress, Favorite Female Star Advertisement, Favorite Film Actress and Favorite Female Star Advertisement.

In 2006, Luna was nominated for “Best Female Leading Role” at the 2006 Indonesian Film Festival for her work in Ruang. She was nominated as “Most Favorite Actress” at the 2007 MTV Indonesia Movie Awards for the film Pesan Dari Surga. She is the first Indonesian to be named an ambassador of the World Food Programme. Also in 2008, she was appointed ambassador of World Wide Fund for Nature after her work at a tree-planting event in Demak, Central Java. Luna was among the people chosen to carry the Olympic torch for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Luna began her career as a model. Her first acting job was a supporting role in the film 30 Hari Mencari Cinta (2004) and in the film Brownies in 2005. She appears in the film Cinta Silver with Rima Melati and Catherine Wilson. During this period she also appeared on the soap operas Dan, Kau Dan Aku, Ada Cinta, Rahasiaku and Anggun.
