Karen Gillan is known for Amy Pond‘s role in Doctor Who‘s and Nebula‘s in the Guardian of the Galaxy series. She is also Ruby Roundhouse, a commando, Martha’s avatar, in the new Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Born and raised in Inverness, Scotland, her parents, John Raymond and Marie Paterson, live in Kinmylies. At a young age she begins to love acting, joining several local theater groups and taking part in numerous productions at her Charleston Academy. At sixteen she decides to follow her interest in acting, studying at Edinburgh’s Telford College. She later gained a place at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London. At eighteen she moved to London to study at a theater school.

Her first roles as an actress are as guest stars in several television series. Her long-lasting role is in the comedy sketch series The Kevin Bishop Show, where she plays several characters, including celebrities such as Katy Perry and Angelina Jolie. She appears in Channel 4 Stacked as Ginny and as the protagonist in the horror project The Well, broadcasted as a series of episodes on BBC Two.
In May 2009 she became Amy Pond, Doctor’s girlfriend in the fifth season of the UK series Doctor Who, having appeared in the series in a minor role in an episode of the fourth season. Her first appearance in the role is in the episode The Eleventh Hour of April 3, 2010 and is confirmed also in the following season.
In August 2011, she announced his participation in the indie comedy Not Another Happy Ending with Emun Elliott, which starts in July 2012. During an interview with San Diego Comic-Con International in 2011, Gillan confirms her participation in the seventh season of Doctor Who, which in December is announced will be the last one in which her character will appear.

Karen Gillan was cast in the lead female role in the Jumanji sequel. Gillan starred alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a standalone sequel to Jumanji (1995), also a tribute to Robin Williams, star of the original film, who died on August 11, 2014.
She will be also in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and its untitled sequel (2019). In 2017, she wrote and directed her first feature film, The Party’s Just Beginning.
