Originally from Rasun Anterselva, Dorothea Wierer joined the Italian national team in 2007.
She takes part at the Winter Olympics in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang, alongside other very beautiful athletes as Anna Gasser.
In 2008 she became the first Italian to have won a youth gold medal at the World Youth Championships, in Ruhpolding (Germany) in the individual. In the course of the same event, in addition to the 8th place in the sprint and the 21st place in the pursuit, she also won the bronze medal in the relay, together with her companions Alexia Runggaldier and Monika Messner.
The following year, during the World Championships in Canmore (Canada), after a 7th place in the individual and a 4th in the sprint she hit the gold medal in the pursuit. Also confirmed the medal obtained the previous year in the relay with Alexia Runggaldier and Nicole Gontier.
During the 2007-2008 season she achieved remarkable results in the junior European Cup, especially in the weekend of San Sicario (Italy), also climbing on the third step of the podium in the chase race. In addition, thanks to one of her excellent fraction, in the relay of the Junior Europeans teamed with Christa Perathoner and Alexia Runggaldier was ranked in 5th place.
On 9 January 2009 she made his debut in the World Cup taking part in the sprint of Oberhof, which has reached 69.
In the 2010-2011 season in the Ruhpolding stage for the first time she won valid points for the general classification, finishing 24th in the sprint and 37th in the chase.
During the same season she dominated the Junior World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě (Czech Republic), winning three gold medals: in the sprint race, in the pursuit and in the individual. It was an unprecedented result, since no other athlete had ever been able to do so much in the female field. Moreover, the three victories have made Dorothea Wierer the fourth Italian athlete in the history of winter sports to win so much at the junior level, equaling Karen Putzer, Nadia Fanchini and Alessandro Pittin. In the last race of the event the silver medal in the relay was also assured, together with the comrades Alexia Runggaldier and Nicole Gontier.
Thanks to the excellent results obtained in the season Dorothea Wierer is also called for the Ridanna Riders European Championships, where she participates both in the junior category (in sprint and chase races, where she wins the silver and gold medals respectively), and in the major one for the relay race, in which she obtained the silver medal along with her classmates Roberta Fiandino, Michela Andreola and Karin Oberhofer.
She took part in the World Championships of Chanty-Mansijsk, obtaining 28th place in the sprint and 9th in pursuit, to those of Ruhpolding 2012 and to those of Nové Město na Moravě, to whom she won the bronze in the relay.
In the 2013-2014 season she took part in the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi 2014, winning the bronze medal in the mixed relay and finishing 6th in the sprint, 17th in the chase, 25th in the starting line and 6th in the relay; on March 8th 2014 at Pokljuka he conquers the first podium in the World Cup (3rd).
At the World Championships in Kontiolahti 2015 she won the bronze medal in the relay race and was 20th in the sprint, 9th in the pursuit, 4th in the individual, 27th in the starting line and 7th in the mixed relay; at the beginning of the following season, on December 3rd at Östersund in individual, she won her first World Cup race. At the World Championships in Oslo, Holmenkollen 2016 won the silver medal in pursuit and at the end of the season won the Individual World Cup.
